About this service
Braiding covers a lot of ground — a single statement braid down one side, braids worked into an updo, a crown braid around the head, or several braids combined into one shape. Your stylist will talk through what suits your hair length and thickness, and how much of your hair you want braided.
Braids are practical as well as decorative: they keep hair off your face, hold their shape in heat and humidity, and last well overnight.
What's included
- Consultation about the braid style and placement
- Prep so the braid has grip and stays neat
- Braiding worked to the style you've chosen
- Securing and finishing so it holds
- Advice on keeping it neat and taking it down safely
What to expect at your appointment
Allow about 45 minutes, though intricate or multiple braids may take longer. Come with clean, dry, detangled hair.
Your stylist will section and prep your hair, then braid, checking tension and placement as they work. The braid is secured and finished at the end.
Who it's best for
Events, holidays, festivals, active days and anyone who wants their hair out of the way but still looking considered. Braids work on most lengths and textures, though longer and thicker hair gives more options.
Caring for it at home
Don't leave braids in too long or wear them too tight — persistent tension on the hairline is worth avoiding. Sleep with a silk scarf or on a silk pillowcase to keep them neat, and take them down by unpicking from the end rather than pulling.
Most braid styles look good for a day or two; some hold longer with care.
Tips from our stylists
- Come with detangled hair — knots make braiding slower and less comfortable
- Day-old hair braids more neatly than freshly washed hair
- Tell your stylist immediately if the tension feels tight; it shouldn't hurt
- Bring a photo, as braid styles vary enormously
- Unpick braids gently from the ends rather than tugging them out
Common questions
- How long do braids last?
- A day or two for most styles, longer if you protect them at night with silk and avoid getting them damp.
- Should my hair be clean?
- Clean, but ideally washed the day before — day-old hair grips better and braids neater.
- Does braiding damage hair?
- Not when the tension is right. Tell your stylist if anything feels tight, and avoid wearing tight braids for long stretches.
- What length do I need?
- Most braid styles need shoulder-length or longer. Send a photo when you request the appointment and we'll tell you what's possible.
