About this service
An updo is built, not just pinned. Your stylist creates structure at the root, adds texture where the style needs grip, then shapes the hair up and secures it so it holds through a long day of hugs, dancing and photographs.
Whether you want something soft and undone, a sleek and formal shape, or a low chignon with a few pieces left loose at the face, the style is designed around your hair length, density and what you're wearing.
What's included
- Consultation about the style, your outfit and any hair accessories
- Prep and texturising so the style has grip and holds
- The updo built and secured with pins and, where needed, discreet support
- Face-framing pieces shaped to suit you
- Setting with finishing product so it lasts the day and evening
What to expect at your appointment
Allow about an hour. Come with clean, dry hair — day-old hair actually holds an updo better than freshly washed hair.
Your stylist will prep and texturise your hair, then build the style in stages, checking it from all angles as they go. Accessories, veils or clips are placed at the end and secured properly.
Who it's best for
Weddings, proms, galas, milestone birthdays and any occasion you'll be photographed at. Updos suit most lengths from shoulder-length upwards; very short hair can often be styled up partially.
Caring for it at home
Take an updo down carefully — find and remove every pin before pulling, or you'll take hair with them. Brush the texturising product out gently with a wide-tooth comb, then shampoo thoroughly, as updos use more product than everyday styling.
A well-built updo holds for a full day and evening.
Tips from our stylists
- Wash your hair the day before, not the morning of — clean hair is too slippery to hold pins well
- Bring any accessories, veil or clips to the appointment so they can be placed properly
- Wear a top you can take off without pulling it over your head
- Book a trial if it's for your wedding, so there are no surprises on the day
- Bring a photo of your outfit or neckline — it changes which shape suits
Common questions
- Should I wash my hair before an updo?
- Wash it the day before. Day-old hair has more grip and holds pins much better than freshly washed hair.
- Do you do bridal updos and trials?
- Yes. Request your appointment with as much notice as possible for wedding dates, and mention if you'd like a trial beforehand.
- Will it hold all night?
- A properly built updo is designed to last a full day and evening, including dancing.
- Can you do an updo on short hair?
- Shoulder-length and longer is easiest. Shorter hair can often be styled up partially — send us a photo when you request the appointment and we'll advise.
